Jack Daniel was not only a Master Distiller who knew the craft of making fine sipping whiskey but also a true small-town gentleman who had a knack for forming lasting friendships. In 1904, during the St. Louis World’s Fair, Jack Daniel became friends with Mr. M. Hoctor from Great Britain. The Englishman believed that the world would embrace the unique taste of Jack’s charcoal-mellowed whiskey and encouraged him to introduce it to Europe.
Following this advice, Jack Daniel sent his whiskey abroad, and in 1905, it was awarded a Gold Medal in Liege, Belgium.
